Description
The Pressure Roller (HP P1005/P1102 / Canon LBP6000/LBP6030)—also widely known as the lower fuser roller—is a high-temperature structural component situated inside the printer's fuser assembly. While the upper heating element (fuser sleeve) melts loose toner powder from above, the lower pressure roller applies constant, intense mechanical force from below. This compression squeezes the softened toner deeply into the microscopic fibers of the paper, locking the text onto the page permanently as it exits the machine.
Constructed with a heavy steel core axle wrapped in a thick, resilient layer of heat-resistant silicone rubber, this roller maintains structural integrity under immense tension and constant operating temperatures exceeding 180°C. The outermost layer is coated in a non-stick, anti-static fluoropolymer sleeve (similar to Teflon) to prevent paper wraps and toner adhesion. Over hundreds of thousands of cycles, the constant heating and cooling causes the inner silicone to soften, lose its shape, or peel away from the steel axle, which degrades the necessary fusing pressure and leads to structural paper jams or smudged text.
